Here's all you need to know about this update:
Apple will rollout an iOS software update in the early 2018 with new features that will give users better 'control' over the health of their iPhone’s battery. It will enable users to see for themselves if the battery's condition is affecting their iPhone's performance.
The update to iOS11 will allow users to turn-off battery performance monitoring feature in their iPhones.
This means that Apple will inform users when it is reducing performance of their devices by some amount to avert an unexpected restart/shutdown. And if users don't want it, they can turn off the feature.
Users will not have to have to wait till iOS12 release to get this update.
Update to come in developer beta, expected in early February. This means public release likely to follow some time in March.
Apple, on its part, suggests users not to turn-off the 'battery performance throttling' feature. The company claims that it not only avoids unexpected shutdowns & but also extends the life of older iPhones.
The move comes after Apple admitted last month that it intentionally slows down iPhones to avoid issues which may arise as batteries age in older iPhones. The company also apologised to users in an open letter for not informing them clearly.
The company also announced a battery replacement program that allows Apple customers worldwide to replace the batteries of their out-of-warranty iPhones. The battery replacement cost too has been reduced to Rs 2,000 from Rs 5,900 earlier.
The iPhones eligible for battery Apple's replacement program include iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
